Technology Advancement in Lake View Radiology Department

newsJune 2005 Lake View Memorial added a new modality to their Radiology Department, Bone Densitometry. Bone density is easily measured with an instrument called a bone densitometer, using DXA (Dual X-ray Absorptiometry) technology. Osteoporotic fractures can result in chronic pain, disability, loss of independence and even death. Early detection of low bone density before fractures occur, is the key to successful management. Lake View Memorial has two certified technologists performing Dexa scans. Terri McDannold, R.T.(R), CDT and Patti Johnson, R.T.(R), CDT have taken and passed the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) exam on bone density testing for Osteoporosis. Certification in bone densitometry is a demonstration of proficiency and is a requirement for some insurance companies and HMOs. Lake View Memorial is dedicated to improving patient awareness of osteoporosis and is very excited to offer this new modality to the community.

newsApril 2006 Lake View Memorial added a brand new, state of the art, 16 slice CT Scanner to the Radiology Department. This new CT Scanner replaced the single slice GE CT Scanner purchased in 2002. With the new 16 slice Scanner we are able to perform very high quality CT scans from CT Angiography studies to very complicated trauma CT scans. Another added advantage is the decreased actual scan time and radiation dose per procedure for the patient. We are very excited to have such an advanced piece of equipment in our facility.

May 2006 Lake View Memorial added Computed Radiology (CR) to their Radiology Department. All of our x-rays are now processed into a digital reader, saved on disk and printed out on a digital laser printer. With this advanced technology we are better able to serve our patients with the latest technology in Radiology. With this technology, in trauma cases, the x-ray images can be immediately sent via the computer to a Radiologist for an immediate expert reading. We are very proud to have this state of the art piece of equipment in our facility and look forward to the advancement into the digital healthcare world.

Bone Density Testing

Lake View Memorial Hospital is proud to announce this new service for our community.

What is a Bone Density Test?

newsIt is an exam that uses a very low dose of radiation to measure the density of your bones. If the bone density is low, then you have osteoporosis and have a very high risk of fracturing your bones. The exam only takes a few minutes and is painless.

Who is a candidate for this test?

All women age 65 and over, all men aged 70 and older, anyone with a fragility fracture, anyone with a disease, condition or medication associated with Osteoporosis and women who have been on hormonal treatment for prolonged periods; to name a few. If you feel you are a candidate for this test schedule a visit with your primary care physician and they can evaluate your medical information to see if you would be eligible for this test.

If you have any questions about this new service being provided to our community don't hesitate to call Lake View Memorial Hospital Radiology Department at 834-7386.
