Tobacco Use on Lake View Campus
by Brian Carlson, CEO
On August 30, 2006 Lake View Memorial Hospital's Board of Directors voted unanimously to become tobacco-free on all of its' properties by July 1, 2007. This means that patients, visitors, and employees will be asked to refrain from using tobacco on any property owned or operated by Lake View. We believe this is a necessary step in our efforts to promote health and prevent illness in the communities we serve.
This decision is not intended to control anyone's choice to smoke outside of the workplace. It simply acknowledges our responsibility to promote the healthiest possible environment for our patients, our visitors, our employees and the community. We feel this is particularly important in light of the fact that tobacco contributes to one out of every five deaths in the U.S., making it the leading cause of preventable death.
Moving to a tobacco-free campus is a work in progress. On behalf of the Lake View's Board of Directors we want to thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
