Hospital Services

Short Term Rehab

If you or a loved one has been hospitalized due to acute illness, stroke, surgery, or heart issues, often additional therapy or nursing care is needed to fully recover. Lake View Hospital offers short-term rehabilitation to help you reach your maximum potential and return to your previous lifestyle.

Short term rehab patients may stay for as little as a week, or up to 100 days. The average length of stay is two to three weeks.

An individualized program will be created for you based on your needs, abilities and goals. Typically, this includes twice-daily sessions with a physical therapist, plus as-needed meetings with our occupational and speech therapists. A registered nurse will develop a care plan for you, and our nursing staff will track your progress. You will be encourage to get dressed each day, and we will provide help if needed. You will also have free access to our fitness center while you are here.

Medicare requirements

For Medicare A patients, you may see short term rehab referred to as “Swing Bed” in your insurance information. (Note: short term rehab is also available for non-Medicare patients.)

To qualify, you must have been hospitalized for three or more consecutive days, with your doctor determining you still need daily skilled care. If you meet these criteria, Medicare will pay 100% of covered charges for the first 20 days. After that, Medicare will pay all covered charges for days 21 to 100 except for the skilled nursing facility coinsurance. If you have supplemental insurance we will file a claim for the coinsurance. Otherwise you will be responsible for the coinsurance amount. If you want more information about the daily coinsurance, please contact our business office at 218-834-7316.

For more information call or e-mail our Director of Social Services at 218-834-7305.
