Our History

The construction of Lake View Memorial Hospital (LVMH) began in 1956 with funds supplied through donations and government assistance through the Hill-Burton Fund. The Hospital first opened its doors for patient care in July of 1957. As Two Harbors grew and the need for additional beds grew, LVMH expanded. In August 1968, the Convalescent and Nursing Care Unit (C&NCU) was opened. Both the hospital and the nursing home are presently licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health.

In 1993 and 1994 Lake View built and opened two Adult Foster Care homes, Lake View Cottages, located off campus in a residential setting near Odegard Park. The Cottages are both ten-bed homes, providing services and personalized care for people with memory loss impairments and the frail elderly.

Today, Lake View is a diverse organization that includes inpatient and outpatient care, a skilled nursing facility, subacute hospital services, an outpatient specialty clinic and adult foster care. It employs approximately 140 people and has one of the largest payrolls in the community. It is the pride of all that work there and provides essential services along the Great North Shore.
